Red Door Food Pantry
The Red Door Food Pantry is Church of the Ascension’s best-known outreach. Sharing Christ’s love by sharing food has always been an active ministry at the parish. We also partner with other community organizations to provide food to those in need: Friendship Table at First Presbyterian Church, Bless Coalition (Hope for Christmas and Supplies for Success), and Advocates for Children to name a few.
Since 2013 it has been part of the Atlanta Community Food Bank serving about 150 families each week at the main site and serving additional families at a mobile site. Since 2021 it has been its own 501c3 nonprofit.
Patrons receive food every two (2) weeks on either Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.

Required Client Information:
For the head of the household, we will need a driver’s license, or utility bill or lease agreement to verify your address. For each person in the household, we will need full names and birthdates. Also each family must attest that they meet the income requirements that change every year on October 1st. If there are children under 18 in the house, please bring proof of Medicaid, free and/or reduced lunch, PeachCare, WIC etc. so we can qualify you for supplements, if available.
Please follow the link below, scroll down and select English TEFAP Household Eligibility Form or Spanish TEFAP Household Eligibility Form to view the current income requirements.
Food is distributed by household, and not to each person in the home.
We welcome everyone who wishes to assist with our efforts – church membership is not a requirement for volunteering. Volunteers can help in several ways.
Regular Food Pantry Hours:
When: Tuesday 4:30-7:00 pm and Wednesday 8:40 -11:00 am.
Responsibilities: Pack and lift bags weighing 15-20 pounds, break down cardboard, and possibly carry food to cars as needed. We use Sign Up Genius so volunteers can choose their own schedule. Please contact the church office at 770-382-2626 with your name, cell number, and email, so we can enroll you in Sign-Up Genius.
When: Third (3rd) Thursday of every month at 11:00 am at the Red Door Food Pantry
Responsibilities: Be able to lift 20-25 pounds. We usually form a human chain to unload the food. Just show up to help.
According to the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) requirements, all volunteers must be trained. Follow the link below to access training PowerPoints at the bottom of the page. When you sign up for a shift on Sign-Up Genius, you will attest to being trained. Breathe easy, you are not responsible for submitting reports. However, it is important for volunteers to understand the reasons for our procedures.
