Hunger Walk/Run 2022
Red Door Food Pantry
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.” -Jesus of Nazareth as quoted in Matthew 25:35-36
At Church of the Ascension, “we challenge ourselves to love like Jesus”. Outreach’s primary focus is to provide food to those in need at the Red Door Food Pantry (RDFP), on Tuesday evenings (5-7pm) and Wednesday mornings (9-11am). In 2018, we added the mobile food pantry, with a grant-purchased refrigerated truck, so we travel to South Bartow in the Emerson and Allatoona areas and distribute food on the third Saturday of the month. In 2020 at the peak of Covid-19, Outreach, along with community partners (BLESS, Will2Way, First Presbyterian Church) and hundreds of volunteers, started Dinners TOGO. A program that provided daily hot meals to food insecure families and children. Over 56,000 meals were distributed over two months.
RDFP in partnership, with other organizations in Bartow County, provides food to those in need. These programs include Friendship Table, Hope for Christmas, Farmers to Families, Good Neighbor Shelter, Back Pack Buddies, and Advocates for Children.
Thank you Karen Tindall and Nancy Haight as the volunteer coordinators for the RDFP. Thank you Melanie Lambert with TurnKey Writing Solutions, for event planning of Mardi Gras and grant writing.
